Have a "Greener" Holiday Season
According to the Environmental Protection Agency, the average American produces about 4.4 pounds of garbage a day, or a total of 29 pounds per week. Reducing and reusing is therefore one of the key things we all can do to improve the health of our environment. The holidays present one of the best times of year to put this into practice because seasonal parties and gift giving typically generate a lot of trash. You don't have to be a "green" Grinch to have a more environmentally friendly holiday season this year. Here are 10 simple tips to get started.

Make Exercise Your Fountain of Youth
After decades of alarms clocks, timesheets, deadlines and all-too-short vacations, it's finally time to retire. But days of leisure and relaxation also free up time for fitness and physical activity. "The golden years of retirement should not equate with a sedentary life," said Minerva Navarro, M.D., a geriatrician at PAMF's Mountain View Center. "I tell my older patients that it's never too late to reap the benefits of regular exercise. No matter how long it has been since someone has exercised or how old that person is, there is some sort of appropriate exercise that can boost fitness, energy and overall well-being." Unwanted or Expired Medication? Drop It Off!
Every day, people flush medications down sink drains and toilets, and these medications make their way into local waterways. In fact, 80 percent of U.S. waterways tested by the U.S. Geological Survey were found to have at least one pharmaceutical component present, which contributes to pollution and harms fish and other wildlife. Now, patients, employees and neighbors of the Mountain View Center can safely dispose of unwanted or expired prescription and/or over-the-counter medications in a special pharmaceutical container located in the Center's Pharmacy Department. Learn more about accepted and unaccepted items for disposal at the Mountain View Center.
