In this issue...
Greetings From Dr. David Druker, PAMF President and CEO
David Druker, M.D., President and CEO, Palo Alto Medical Foundation

In late March and early April, we held public meetings attended by more than 100 San Carlos residents. As with several community meetings held last year, these forums provided us with an opportunity to discuss our proposed medical center and hospital and answer questions about the project. The community's input during these meetings helps us better understand the needs and concerns of local residents.

During our most recent meetings, several questions were raised concerning who has access to care at the PAMF San Carlos Center. To be clear, unlike Kaiser Permanente, PAMF is not a "members only" organization. Everyone will be able to access the services available at the San Carlos Center, as well as PAMF's other facilities. In Their Own Words

"As a physician at St. Luke's Hospital, I know it is getting harder and harder to recruit doctors and find specialists that are close to home. PAMF has proven its ability to recruit doctors into the community to provide the primary and specialty care we will need in San Carlos."

Barbara Bishop, M.D., member of the San Carlos Center's Community Advisory Committee and 5-year San Carlos resident

"I have worked with PAMF doctors as a nurse at Stanford and they are the best people, of the highest quality and very committed."

Pam Gallant, R.N., member of the San Carlos Center's Community Advisory Committee and 6-year San Carlos resident

Questions and Answers from Community Meetings Hosted by PAMF

We want to address a few questions about our proposed San Carlos Center that were asked during our recent community meetings. If you have any additional questions about these issues, please call PAMF's Department of Public Affairs at (650) 853-2965 or visit www.pamf.org/sancarlos.

Who is the group called San Carlos Residents for a Healthy Open Debate?

Some of you may have received phone calls or fliers in the mail from this group spreading misleading information about a number of issues associated with the PAMF San Carlos Center. As discussed in recent newspaper articles, San Carlos Residents for a Healthy Open Debate is organized, supported and operated by the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Local 250, an Oakland-based labor union. How You Can Help

Community support is key to making the San Carlos Center a reality. You can help by letting your community leaders know you support this project and the benefits it will bring: high-quality health care; access to a 24-hour, seven-days-a-week emergency room; access to urgent care; more than 1,200 new jobs; community health programs; enhanced access to personal physicians; and more. We hope you will call, e-mail or write to your local City Council and Planning Commission and tell them why you believe PAMF will provide healthy choices for San Carlos.

To contact your City Council members, please visit the City of San Carlos Web site at www.cityofsancarlos.org We also encourage you to share this newsletter with your friends, family and neighbors who might be interested in PAMF's plans.
