"Safe Sun" for Children

For many parents, the image of their baby playing on the beach on a warm, sunny day is a pleasant one. Unfortunately, exposing skin to the sun from birth to age 20 is probably the single biggest risk factor for developing skin cancer.
Skin cancer is the fastest-growing type of cancer. Current estimates show that about one in every 100 children may eventually develop a "melanoma," which can be the most deadly form of skin cancer. These cancers are often irregularly shaped and colored, and can spread quickly. Read more...

Natasha Beilin, M.D., FAAFP, is a pediatrician at the Fremont Center. She received her M.D. degree from St. Petersburg State Pediatric Medical Academy in Russia in 1997.
