Calcium is essential to our health. Our bodies need it to build and maintain strong bones and teeth. Yet many people don't really begin thinking about their calcium intake until they reach later middle age and begin to think about osteoporosis. In the United States, only about half of children under age 5, and the minority of teenage girls and adult women, get enough calcium. Read more...

Catherine Baker, M.D., joined the Department of Family Medicine at the Palo Alto Clinic in July. She received her M.D. degree from the University of California, Los Angeles in 2001 after graduating from the University of California, Riverside. She completed an internship and residency at the Kaiser Foundation Hospital at the Los Angeles Medical Center in family practice. She is board certified in family practice and speaks basic Spanish.

Janet Volpe, M.D., joined the Pediatric Urgent Care Center at the Palo Alto Clinic in June. She received her M.D. degree in 1992 from Tufts University School of Medicine, as well as her MPH degree, after graduating from the University of California, Santa Barbara. She completed an internship and residency at the Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital at Stanford University Medical Center. She is board certified in pediatrics and speaks medical Spanish.
