Checking Your Child's Developmental Progress

Parents take their children to see a pediatrician or family medicine physician for physical checkups and to diagnose and treat illnesses. However, many parents may not realize is that an important part of these exams is to identify developmental delays and behavioral problems in infants and young children.
According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, 12 to 16 percent of all children in the United States have developmental or behavioral disorders -- including problems in the following areas: fine or gross motor skills, cognitive development and problem solving, speech delays, and social interaction problems. More than 350,000 people in the U.S. have been diagnosed with MS, which symptoms include fatigue, weakness, spasticity, balance problems, bladder and bowel problems, numbness, vision loss, tremor and vertigo.

Natasha Beilin, M.D., FAAFP, is a pediatrician at the Fremont Center. She received her M.D. degree from St. Petersburg State Pediatric Medical Academy in Russia in 1997. Dr. Beilin completed a residency at State University of New York's Downstate Medical Center. She is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics and American Medical Association. Dr. Beilin is board certified in pediatrics and speaks fluent Russian.
Steven Howard, M.D. , is a family medicine physician at the Redwood Shores Health Center and in San Carlos. He received his M.D. degree from Chicago Medical School in 1976. Dr. Howard completed an internship and residency at Southside Hospital in Bayshore, New York. He is board certified in family medicine and president of the San Mateo Chapter of the California Academy of Family Physicians.
