Summer 2006 Volume 1 Issue 1
Mats Hagstrom: Plastic Surgeon, Chef, Winemaker
Mats Hagstrom, M.D., is what many would call a Renaissance man. Not only is he a well-respected plastic surgeon in the Palo Alto Medical Foundation's (PAMF) Department of Cosmetic Surgery at the Fremont Center, but he is also a talented chef and winemaker.

"I enjoy the diversity of plastic surgery cases," Hagstrom says. "I don't differentiate between cosmetic and plastic surgery; we use the same techniques for cosmetic surgery that we do to treat patients with cancer or who have accidents. It's all about restoring form and function and helping people."

New Non-Surgical IPL Treatment
Many people have wrinkles; skin pigmentation, such as freckles and age spots; broken blood vessels; spider veins; and other skin imperfections that they would like to reduce. Now, the Palo Alto Medical Foundation's (PAMF) Department of Cosmetic Surgery has a new technology to combat these and other skin conditions.

PAMF's Palo Alto Clinic has just installed Palomar Starlux System's Intense Pulsed Light (IPL), a hand-held instrument that emits pulses of light that target specific substances, such as blood vessels, in the skin. Each pulse will send a beam of light through the skin. A flashing light, an audible tone and a mild sensation on the skin will let the patient know when the hand piece is being pulsed.

Featured Service: Breast Contouring
The Palo Alto Medical Foundation's (PAMF) Department of Cosmetic Surgery offers a variety of surgical procedures to enhance every aspect of one's appearance, including breast contouring. The highly-skilled plastic surgeons perform breast enlargement, breast lifts, male breast reduction, as well as removal and replacement of breast implants.

Women who desire larger or smaller breasts, have a moderate degree of breast sagging, have one breast that is noticeably smaller than the other, or men with large breasts may be candidates for one or more of these procedures.
