As many of you know, the Draft Environmental Impact Report (DEIR) for our proposed medical center was released for public review in March, and a hearing was held in early April at the Hiller Aviation Museum to discuss its findings. Although the benefits of the project were not the focus of the April hearing, questions were raised about the medical center's economic impact on the city.
The PAMF San Carlos Center will contribute significantly to the local economy through the creation of more than 1,300 new jobs in San Carlos, mostly in health care and related fields.
Community support is key to making the PAMF San Carlos Center a reality. You can help by letting your community leaders know you support this project and the benefits it will bring: high-quality health care; enhanced access to primary care and specialty physicians; a 24-hour, seven-days-a-week emergency room; urgent care; more than 1,300 new jobs; community health programs; and more. We hope you will call, e-mail or write to your local City Council and Planning Commission and tell them why you believe the PAMF San Carlos Center will be a good project for San Carlos.
San Carlos School District Superintendent Honors PAMF
PAMF was recently honored with the San Carlos School District Superintendent's Award in recognition of our support of the parent education program and health education for all children and families in San Carlos during the 2005-2006 school year. PAMF, in partnership with the San Carlos School District (SCSD) and the San Carlos Educational Foundation (SCEF), presented a series of six free parent education workshops during the past school year with topics ranging from "A Recipe for Healthy Eating" and "Parents, Peers, Popularity and Power: Navigating Children's Friendships" to "Talking to Your Kids About Sex."

PAMF Participates in Hometown Days Celebration
For the third straight year, PAMF participated in San Carlos' Hometown Days in May. This year, we sponsored the parade and had the honor of leading the procession with a balloon arch. We also were one of the sponsors of the Rotary Club's Fun Run and had a booth in Burton Park that attracted a large number of kids and adults to spin our prize wheel. To claim their prize, participants answered questions about safe sun practices and received information from PAMF physicians and staff about skin cancer prevention, detection and management. Although rain cut short the celebration on Sunday afternoon, the weekend provided us with another important opportunity to interact with members of the community.
