The holiday season provides an opportunity to share time with family and friends, reflect back on accomplishments during the past year and look forward to the New Year. As 2006 comes to a close, I wanted to provide you with an update on our project and give you a preview of what to expect in 2007.
Since filing our initial application in January 2004 to build the Palo Alto Medical Foundation (PAMF) San Carlos Center, we have been gratified by the strong community support we have received for our project. There are a couple of recent developments that highlight the feelings of many San Carlos residents about our proposed medical center.
Community support is key to making the PAMF San Carlos Center a reality. We hope you will attend an upcoming public hearing or call, e-mail or write to your City Council and Planning Commission members and tell them why you believe the PAMF San Carlos Center will be a good project for San Carlos.
Public hearings on the Final Environmental Impact Report for the medical center are expected to take place in January and February of next year. Additional hearings on the project will then be held before the City Council, Planning Commission, and Traffic and Transportation Commission. A final decision from the City Council is expected in the late spring or early summer of 2007.
PAMF is working with the City of San Carlos on a Development Agreement, which is a routine part of any organization's negotiations with a city when discussing a significant construction project such as this one.
PAMF has proposed to provide $11.5 million in community benefit to the City of San Carlos and its residents through a Development Agreement that would include the following:
$9 million endowment for public health and safety programs
$1.5 million donation to the San Carlos Educational Foundation (SCEF)
"Your direct connection to Personalized Health Care"
Parent Education Series
Following the success of the first series, which was attended by more than 700 parents, PAMF, the San Carlos School District and San Carlos Educational Foundation are once again presenting a series of five free parent education workshops during the 2006-2007 school year.
All presentations will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Multi-use Room at Heather Elementary School, located at 2757 Melendy Drive. Light refreshments will be served. The workshops are open to all parents of the San Carlos School District.
