National Infant Immunization Week (NIIW) highlights the benefits of immunizations by focusing on the importance of immunizing infants against vaccine-preventable diseases and celebrating the achievements of immunization programs in promoting healthy communities. More than 60 countries around the world will participate in the 2008 campaign to educate parents, caregivers and health care providers, and ensure that infants are fully immunized against 14 vaccine-preventable diseases. For more information or NIIW materials, visit the Vaccines and Immunizations section of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Web site.

Child Abuse Prevention Month: April
www.preventchildabuse.org

Child Abuse Prevention Month seeks to raise public awareness about child abuse prevention and encourage local activities throughout the country. The campaign offers resources for parents and other caregivers, with the common goal of promoting healthy families. Visit the Prevent Child Abuse America Web site to learn more about what you can do to reach out, identify risk and warning signs, report abuse and neglect, and promote healthy families in your community.

Alcohol Awareness Month: April
www.ncadd.org

Alcohol Awareness Month offers families an opportunity to raise awareness of the number-one drug problem in America — alcohol. Alcohol use by teens and young adults is often overlooked in the focus on illegal drugs. The National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence (NCADD) provides education, information, help and hope to families and friends of addicted persons — and advocates prevention, intervention and treatment through a nationwide network of affiliates. Parents and youth seeking objective information, including statistics, interviews with medical/scientific experts and recommendations about drinking from leading health authorities can visit the NCADD Web site for facts and information.
