Better Hearing and Speech Month: May
www.asha.org
Sponsored by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA), Better Hearing and Speech Month raises awareness about communication disorders and promotes early treatment that can improve the quality of life for children and young adults who experience problems with speaking, understanding or hearing. The earlier a child's speech and language problems are identified and treated, the less likely the problems will persist or get worse. Early speech and language intervention can also help children with reading, writing, schoolwork and interpersonal relationships. Learn more about Better Hearing and Speech Month and child speech and language development, so that you and your child can celebrate better hearing and speech every day.
Skin Cancer Detection and Prevention Month: May

The American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) estimates that we get about 80 percent of our total lifetime sun exposure in the first 18 years of life. This month, the organization reminds families that sun prevention in infancy and childhood is very important. Severe sunburns in children may be related to the development of skin cancers years later. Read the AAD's Parents' Guide to Sun Protection for Children to learn the ABCs of how to safely have fun in the sun.
