PAMF Doctors Perform Robotic Prostate Removal Surgery
Fewer Side Effects, Faster Recovery With New Procedure

After David Nelligan was diagnosed with prostate cancer, he researched different treatment options. Then, PAMF urologist Daniel Yao told him about a new procedure he was performing – robotic-assisted prostatectomy (prostate removal surgery) – and Nelligan said the decision "was a no-brainer."

Robotic-assisted prostatectomy is a type of minimally invasive surgery for men with localized (not having spread to other organs) prostate cancer who need to have their prostate removed. Compared with traditional surgery and even some of the newer minimally invasive procedures, robotic-assisted surgery typically involves less blood loss and pain, lower risk of complications and side effects, shorter hospital stays and faster recovery times. • Find FDA Drug Warning, Recall Information
    on PAMF’s Web Site

With so many different medications on the market today, patients are often confused when they hear that a drug manufacturer has pulled its product from store shelves or that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a drug warning. People wonder, "Does this affect me, and what does my doctor think about this?" To help patients understand the latest news about a drug or medical product, PAMF has created a "Health and Drug Alerts" page on its Web site.

Here, patients can view summaries of the latest news about FDA drug warnings, medical product recalls and other safety alerts. The summaries give patients reliable information and tips on what they should do if they or loved ones are taking medications that might be unsafe. If a warning or recall requires people to change medications or take other action, PAMF will notify patients as necessary by letter, phone or through PAMF’s e-health service, PAMFOnline. Visit www.pamf.org/news/drugalerts to see a list of recent warnings and recalls.
