National Parks and Recreation Month (July)
www.nrpa.org

July is America's official Parks and Recreation Month. Spending the day at the park is good for your health. It is a great way to bond with your family, connect with loved ones, and improve your mental and physical health. Frequently going to a park and being active can reduce stress, improve cardiovascular health, help ward off obesity and decrease feelings of depression. Playing in parks also helps children build and maintain healthy bones and muscles, and improve self-esteem. Visit the National Recreation and Parks Web site and find more reasons to get outside and have fun!

Children's Eye Health and Safety Month (August)
www.preventblindnessamerica.org

Each year, thousands of children age 5 and under have eye accidents at home, at play or in the car. These eye injuries can damage a child's sight and even cause blindness. Visit the Play it Safe section of the Prevent Blindness America Web site to learn about the most common causes of eye accidents in children, how to find and remove hazards, how to tell if your child has an eye injury, and simple steps that can can help prevent eye injuries to your child.

National Immunization Awareness Month (August)
www.cdc.gov

The goal of National Immunization Awareness Month (NIAM) is to increase awareness about immunizations – from infancy and beyond. Because children are particularly vulnerable to infection, most vaccines are given during the first five to six years of life. Other immunizations are recommended during adolescent or adult years, and for certain vaccines, booster immunizations are recommended throughout life. Now is a good time to remind family, friends, co-workers and those in the community to catch up on their vaccinations, because in August parents are enrolling their children in school, students are entering college and healthcare workers are preparing for the upcoming flu season. Visit the Vaccines and Immunizations section of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Web site for a Childhood and Adolescent Immunization Schedule, a Parents' Guide to Childhood Immunization and other infant immunization materials.
