Labor & Birth

Build confidence in yourself and your partner as you prepare for the birth of your baby. Learn about the stages of labor, comfort and coping skills, medical interventions and the role of the support person. A tour of The Nesting Place Obstetrical Suites is provided as part of this interactive class. Labor & Birth is completed in one Saturday class from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. or three weeknight classes from 6 – 9 p.m. held on either three consecutive Tuesdays or two consecutive Wednesdays. Fee is $80 per couple.

Survival Skills for New Parents

Be prepared for those first few weeks at home with your new baby. Practice the basics of feeding, diapering, burping, swaddling and comforting a newborn. Infant illness and safety are also covered in this interactive class. This class is part of the childbirth preparation package, but can also be taken separately.

  • Cost: $30 (If taken separately from preparation package)
  • Location: Auditorium B
  • Time: Class is offered on Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday
    • Weekday Classes: 6 p.m. - 9 p.m.
    • Saturday Classes: 9 a.m. - 12 p.m.

Boot Camp for New Dads

This “men only” class is a hit with dads-to-be! Join veteran dads with their 2 – 6 month old babies for a true hands-on experience. Learn practical tips that prepare you for the immense joy and challenge of raising a baby. Fee is $25.

  • 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. Saturday

Children are Priceless Passengers (CAPP)

The Children are Priceless Program is a partnership between Banner Del E. Webb Medical Center, the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, police departments, and municipal/justice courts designed to educate families about injury prevention, crash dynamics, types of restraints for children and installation of car seats.

These classes are taught by certified child passenger safety technicians. The classes are open to the public and cited drives, with the opportunity to receive a child safety seat upon completion of class. Fee is $25.

The classes are available on Saturdays from 9 a.m. – noon  in Auditorium B: 

Welcome New Sibling

This fun and interactive class will help your child ages 4 – 9, get ready for the new baby. Through a video, book, drawing and hands-on practice with a doll or stuffed animal, your child will begin to understand the changes that a newborn will bring to their home. Discussion includes feelings they may have about the new baby, questions about pregnancy, a tour of the facility and safety awareness. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Fee $20/child.

The classes are available on Saturdays from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. in the Catalina Room

Breastfeeding Basics

Breastfeeding your baby is a wonderful, healthy gift you can give your baby.  Find out how you and your partner can work together toward successfully feeding your baby.  A board certified lactation consultant will address the health benefits for mom and baby, breastfeeding positions, pumping and milk storage.  This is part of the childbirth package, but can be taken separately.  If taken separately, the fee is $25.

CPR with First Aid

In this American Health and Safety Institute course you will learn through instruction and hands-on practice CPR basics for infant, child and adult. Additionally, you learn proper use of an AED (Automated External Defibrillator) as well as choking relief.

First Aid will be presented immediately following the CPR course for an additional charge.

Instructor will have products available for purchase ,  First Aid Kits and Face Shield in Keyring. This class is part of the childbirth preparation package, but can also be taken separately.

  • Cost: $35 per person (If taken separately from preparation package)
               $45 per person with First Aid
  • Location: Auditorium B  (unless noted)
  • Time: Class is offered on Saturday only
    • Saturdays:     1 - 5 p.m.

Pickles and Ice Cream Tour
If you’re expecting or plan to add to your family in the near future, consider taking the Pickles & Ice cream Tour of The Nesting Place Obstetrical Suites located in the Louisa Kellam Center for Women’s Health.

Pre-registration is recommended for the video/walking tour of the private birthing suites, couplet care suites and respite care and special-care nurseries. The tours are held 1-2 p.m. on most Saturdays and the first Wednesday of each month from 7 – 8 p.m.
