http://www.sunhealth.org/communityed1/
by Brian Browne, Manager, Sun Health Community Education
Obesity in children and adolescents has reached such an epidemic proportion that we really have no time to wait to try to address this problem. An increasing number of kids are overweight, and if no intervention is made, 80 percent of them will stay overweight as adults. This can put them at risk for many medical problems, including diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and sleep apnea. Obesity can also adversely affect their self esteem.

Changes in lifestyle can stave off diabetes
http://www.sunhealth.org/communityed1/in...
by Diane Gronski, M.D., Sun Health Endocrinologist
Hearing
the terms “borderline diabetes” or having “a little sugar” is what we now
classify as pre-diabetes, which used to be thought as a benign condition. What we know now is that, because the cells
in the muscles, liver and fat do not use insulin well, the amount of glucose on
the blood increases while the body’s cells are starved of energy. It can damage nerves and blood vessels,
causing complications such as heart disease, stroke, blindness, kidney disease,
and nerve problems.
